Shoplots - Infill Heritage: Modernity Meets Tradition in Lebuh Victoria, Penang

The Shoplots - Infill Heritage project on Lebuh Victoria, Penang, is a modern interpretation of traditional shopfront architecture.

Design Challenges and Solutions

  1. Modern Office Design: The three-storey offices are designed in the modern style, incorporating the typical shopfront bay of columns and windows. A horizontal frame at the roof parapet level ties the bays together, with a sloping pitched roof behind.

  2. Heritage-Inspired Entrance: The fronting fence wall is divided into three bays, with vehicle access in the central bay. This design uses the traditional sliding and folding grill commonly seen in the heritage zone, blending modern office design with traditional architectural elements.

Result

The Shoplots - Infill Heritage project successfully blends modern office design with traditional architectural elements, contributing to the rich architectural tapestry of Lebuh Victoria in Penang.
